| Lake description - Season - Guides and Tuition - Equipment
Borne Lake was created in 1926 through the damming of the Pilawa River and reaches depths of
up to 8 meters forming the perfect habitat to spawn trophy Pike. The region was originally part
of a secret German military base, then after 1945 was occupied by the Russians. This base
remained a secret until 1993. Prior to that, it only appeared as a white gap on all official maps.
This secret base - town is still visible, and makes for a great half- day excursion.
Today over half of the lake’s surface is covered with rich, dense underwater vegetation
providing a perfect hiding place for the fish. Along the coast, you will find tall reeds where pike
like to bask in the mid-day sun. Numerous other species of fish can also be caught among the
underwater trees, snags, and branches.
When fishing in shallow water where dense vegetation is present, we have had great success
with: stickbaits, Lucky Craft’s flash minnow and live pointer, and Smith’s Kacoon. When fishing
sharply outlined posts, the best bait is dead fish (roach). Roach will make the Pike leave his
shelter.
When fishing in the Spring, good results can be achieved by using: b’freeze, Staysee, Wander,
Lipless LV, Rewinder, DD Panish, Delphy do max, Mask, DD squirrel, and Lipless TN. After
years of studying the lake’s profile, we like to find the wind, and just drift with it fishing along
the way.
The lake is naturally divided into 3 zones - check the map here.
